Welcome to Centa Co, an organisation that provides support for adults with a learning disability and autism. Centa Co was established in 2009, has been a Medway Council listed service provider since its formation and was proud to have had a visit from the Mayor of Medway in 2016.   It is a family run company with experience, training and education being, naturally, very important. The proprietor has worked in the care field since 2002, currently studies Neuroscience with King’s College, London, having gained a First-Class Honours degree from the University of London.

Clients are always supported by someone whom they know well and never by a person whom they have only just met on the day. Clients are also in settled groups so they get to know their peers very well and this provides stability as well as promoting friendship building. Anybody 18 years of age or over with a moderate learning disability or autism is welcome to join.    The day centre has a pool, music and gaming console culture (Wii; X-Box; Playstation) and is very much on a refreshingly adult level. Clients enjoy sitting in the coffee lounge reading the day's newspapers or watching SKY rolling news; going on one of the four computers to research their favourite subjects or catching up on current affairs; gaming on one of the consoles; using the train set; playing one of the many musical instruments (we have guitars; a keyboard; a violin and a trumpet to name just a few) or doing puzzles or jigsaws. Recreation is important but so is education and learning. Therefore, hundreds of books as well as many instructional DVDs and PC learning resources are available.

Activities in the community are also provided, such as bowling, golf and going to country parks. Day trips are also very popular and clients’ favourite themes are airshows; plane spotting at airports; train and bus spotting; museums and castles; animal parks; steam railways and going to the theatre.   The approach is not one of just "keeping clients occupied" for the day. Focus is on what truly interests and engages them. The service is customised which means that we "tune in" to what really engages each and every client. Activity choices are very much made through client input with no rigid timetable.

Feel free to phone Centa Co to arrange a viewing of the day centre which is on the 1st Floor of the Pentagon (unit 91). The first three taster sessions are free of charge.
